Kapu beach is the best beach on the coastal belt of Dakshina Kannada & Udupi. It is a beach with a difference, as it has a wonderful light house on top of a granite hill.
Kapu is located around 15 kms from Udupi towards Mangalore on NH-17. One has to take a right deviation near the temple to reach kapu beach. A two kms ride on this narrow road leads to the beach side.
Kapu beach is popular with residents of Udupi and students from Manipal, due to its close proximity to these towns. Even though Malpe beach is nearby Udupi, Kapu beach has become famous due to its beautiful landscape.
The first attraction in Kapu beach is the light house on top of a huge granite hill. This light house built decades ago has become a symbol of ancient architecture. The light house is round shaped and has a staircase with hundreds of steps to reach the balcony on the top.
The scene of the sea from the top is breath taking. It is like an unforgettable view of the coast. The blue waters, sparkling waves, white sands, black rocks, green coconut trees and the red tiled houses provide a perfect setting for a perfect view. It’s like watching the ground from an aircraft.
One can sit on the terrace here and take photographs. The winds blowing from the Arabian sea and caressing the face is a life time experience. However, the entrance of the light house is open only in the evenings for a nominal fee. Once the lights are switched on, the doors will be closed for visitors.

A walk on this beach with the cool breeze can be exciting. The sun set view from any one of the rocks is a paradise for the eyes.
